Xiaomi's next generation of Redmi Note smartphones is the first handset to feature Samsung's GW1 64MP camera module, the same technology we'll see Samsung implement in their smartphones next year.

Xiaomi VP and Redmi CEO Lu Weibing announced Redmi’s latest smartphone, Redmi Note 8 and Redmi Note 8 Pro, during a launch event at Xiaomi’s new campus.

Redmi Note 8 Pro is the company’s first-ever 64-megapixel camera smartphone utilizing the Samsung GW1 64MP sensor, and sports the latest MediaTek Helio G90T chipset. Redmi Note 8 is equipped with 48MP quad camera, 18W fast-charging, and offers its best audio system yet from the Redmi Note series. Redmi also debuted its first TV – Redmi TV, and added a new laptop to its existing product line – RedmiBook 14 Pro.

Redmi Note 8 Pro is powered by the MediaTek Helio G90T processor, an octa-core CPU clocked up to 2.05GHz. Combining this with the LiquidCool system, the Redmi Note 8 Pro can sustain peak performance for extended periods, so ideal for gamers presumably.

The Redmi Note 8 Pro sports the latest Samsung 64MP GW1 sensor, equipped with ISOCELL Plus technology and has 64 million pixels. This means the rear camera delivers insanely high-resolution photos for print mediums as tall as 3.26 meters in height. In addition to the 64MP primary camera, the device is equipped with an 8MP ultra-wide lens with a 120° field of view, 2MP macro lens, and 2MP depth sensor.

The phone uses uses Corning Gorilla Glass 5 on both front and rear and is offered in three colors, Mineral Grey, Pearl White and Forest Green.

Featuring a large 6.53” FHD+ dot drop display, the screen-to-body ratio of Redmi Note 8 Pro up to 91.4 percent and received low-blue-light eye protection certification by Germany’s TÜV Rheinland. Redmi Note 8 Pro builds on the Redmi Note tradition with a massive 4500mAh battery—the series’ largest ever.  It also uses IP52 splash-proof technology and offers 18W Type-C fast charging, multifunctional NFC, IR blaster and 3.5mm headphone jack.

The Redmi Note 8 offers a scaled down 48MP quad camera, Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 SoC, faster 18W charging and design. In addition to these upgrades, it still retains many features that users enjoy, such as USB Type-C, 3.5mm headphone jack, and an IR blaster.

Pricing and Availability 

The Redmi Note 8 and Note 8 Pro and now available for pre-order in mainland China but should soon come to the rest of the world. The Redmi Note 8 Pro will start at roughly $172 while the Redmi Note 8 will start at $124 depending on memory configurations.
