AMD sees its processor market share rise in 2019
Entering 2020, AMD enters 2020 strong with a strong competitive product portfolio across all its segments
AMD is clearly enjoying breaking records on processors and now its market share and profits.
The company has released their Q4 2019 x86 Processor Report which shows that the company has had massive gains across all three of the key x86 segments i.e notebook, desktop and server with over with nine consecutive quarters of growth in notebook and desktop.
• AMD-powered laptops from major OEMs increased by 50 percent in 2019, helping to drive AMD notebook share, excluding IoT, up 1.5 share points quarter over quarter, and up 4 share points year over year, hitting 16.2%.
• The Ryzen 9 3950X and the 3rd generation Threadripper family, desktop, excluding IoT, also increased, with AMD share moving up 0.3 share points quarter over quarter, and 2.4 share points year over year, hitting 18.3%.
• The ramp of 2nd generation EPYC processors, launched mid-2019, has been significantly faster than 1st generation, thanks to performance and TCO advantages over the competition. This in turn has helped drive share gains for AMD server, excluding IoT, of 0.2 share points quarter over quarter, and 1.4 share points year over year, hitting 4.5%.
