Disney chooses Fortnite to reveal exclusive Star Wars trailer in game
The move from a major studio showcases that the video game is becoming a very tempting advertising platform for young audiences.
Fortnite teased its players and opened them to the Star Wars world this weekend with some minor hiccups.
The battle royale video game saw players and Youtubers experiencing a unique event which tied into the Star Wars film that comes out this week. Ships from the Star Wars universe appeared in game including the notable Millennium Falcon. The in-game event saw JJ Abrams present in characte reveal an exclusive clip never seen before.
Players who attended the event were then rewarded with cosmetic items and lightsabers. This isn't the first partnership between Disney and Epic Games, the studios behind the IP's. They've worked on a similar campaign with The Avengers. In the age of digital media and competitive ways to attract younger audiences, traditional studios like Disney are now choosing different methods to reach out to their audience especially through gaming.
Fortnite has had a reputation for this. Epic Games went as far as to stop the game to introduce a new season and had well over seven million stare at a black hole across 48 hours as it updated the game in its seasonal event.
