HP releases SMB VTL backup line

Tech giant HP has launched two systems designed to make backup and recovery easier and more affordable for small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs).

Tech giant HP has launched two systems designed to make backup and recovery easier and more affordable for small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs).

The vendor this week unveiled virtual tape libraries (VTL) based on its ProLiant servers. Part of HP’s StorageWorks D2D Backup System line, the D2D110 and D2D120 are ProLiant DL100 and DL300 servers with 750Gbyte and 1.5Tbyte of Sata disk in a Raid-5 configuration.

HP said their ease of use and the technology’s low cost made the D2D110 and D2D120 attractive options for Middle East SMB customers needing backup and recovery. The vendor claimed the D2D Backup System line was at least 50% less expensive than competing systems.

“Like our HP StorageWorks All-in-One, we designed the StorageWorks D2D Backup System with the SMB in mind to deliver the most simplicity, reliability and affordability in one intuitive integrated package,” said Ashraf Helmy, HP Middle East’s StorageWorks marketing manager.

The systems can each provide backup for four servers and have been designed along the lines of HP’s StorageWorks All-in-One Storage System with a three-step configuration to make them easier for SMB customers to install and manage.

Both the D2D110 and D2D120 are also available with HP’s Data Protector Express backup software bundled in. The software is a re-branding of Yosemite Technologies’ Yosemite Backup.
