Storage and security vendor Symantec has snapped up US start-up 4FrontSecurity, a company that provides threat assessment technology for businesses.

Storage and security vendor Symantec has snapped up US start-up 4FrontSecurity, a company that provides threat assessment technology for businesses.

The firm said it plans to incorporate 4FrontSecurity into its information security and compliance suite. The terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The firm’s products include software that allows clients to carry out self-assessment procedures, enabling them to identify gaps in their security systems.

The software is made up of a set of automated risk analysis and security management tools developed by founders Christopher Parker and Steve Crutchley.

The founders are to work together with Symantec on the integration of the product. Parker will continue to work as senior manager of product management while Crutchley is to join Symantec’s security and compliance management group as senior manager of software engineering.

“We expect this small acquisition to augment Symantec’s existing compliance and security management solutions and enhance our customers’ control of the information affecting risk management, regulatory and IT policy compliance, and security in their businesses,” Symantec said in a statement to IT Weekly.
