Over US$160million worth of contracts were made during satellite trade show Cabsat, according to its organisers.

Event organiser Dubai World Trade Centre said that sum included one deal worth more than US$88million between Technosat, a manufacturer and wholesaler of satellite equipment, and Indian cable TV service company Hathway.

Over 8,500 trade visitors attended the 13th edition of the show, which took place from March 6-8.

Highlights of the exhibition included Etisalat’s unveiling of its on-the-go entertainment solutions. The company showcased its mobile TV services that allow users to access movies, news and sports on their handsets.

Etisalat further emphasised the industry-wide move towards convergence technology with the re-branding of its subsidiary broadcasting company E-vision to include the phrase: “part of etisalat”.

The next edition of Cabsat is scheduled to take place in March 2008 in Dubai.
