Cisco establishes office in Qatar

Networking giant Cisco has strengthened its position in the Qatari market with the opening of a local office, its first physical presence in the country.

Networking giant Cisco has strengthened its position in the Qatari market with the opening of a local office, its first physical presence in the country.

The operation will be led by Wayne Hull, who was recently appointed South Gulf country manager. Cisco previously worked through partners and distributors in the country, “Qatar has always been a key market for Cisco and our customers there have deployed some of the most advanced network environments in the region,” said Hull. “We see a massive opportunity for growth and Cisco is investing heavily in terms of resources to provide strategic consultancy, direct support and smart business solutions to public and private establishments operating in Qatar.”

Cisco’s customers include Energy City Qatar, which in November appointed Cisco to work on the design of the IT infrastructure required to support its US$2.6 billion regional energy hub. Cisco has also worked with Qatar’s incumbent operator Qtel, notably on the construction of its IT data centre.

“The launch of the Cisco Qatar office comes in line with Cisco’s expansion strategy across the Gulf,” commented Samer Alkharrat, general manager of Cisco Gulf, adding that the region was one of the fastest growing for Cisco worldwide.

In addition to Qatar, Cisco has offices in Kuwait, Bahrain, Dubai and Saudi Arabia, as well as in Pakistan.
