TNT workers get mobile

Express delivery company TNT is rolling out its ‘mobile worker’ communication units to parts of the Middle East.

Express delivery company TNT is rolling out its ‘mobile worker’ communication units to parts of the Middle East.

Following the launch of the devices in the UAE last year, TNT has announced it is making the scanners, which helps drivers to send and receive delivery information, available in Kuwait and Bahrain.

It said it also plans to introduce the mobile worker to Saudi Arabia before the end of 2007.

Rodney Ellis, TNT Express Gulf commercial and marketing manager, said the benefit of the units were they provided customers with real-time delivery and collection updates. Previously drivers would have to phone through to report a delivery or collection.

Ellis said that besides better operational efficiency, use of the units provided management of data, proof of delivery and proof of reception.

Jordan and Egypt still use the old system, but are likely to also be transferred over some time this year, he added.
