Network infrastructure firm Huawei achieved global contract sales of US$11 billion in the last year.

The Chinese vendor attributed the 34% increase in revenue on 2005 down to continued market growth across its business segments.

Huawei did not provide a breakdown of sales for the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, but said international markets represented 65% of total contract sales generated in 2006.

Key deals for Huawei in the region over the past year include a contract with WorldCall Group, one of the fastest emerging telecom groups in Pakistan, to deploy a CDMA WLL network, and with the Saudi Telecom Company (STC), which appointed Huawei to implement its 3G network. The vendor is also helping UAE telco Etisalat construct next generation network (NGN) technology.

Huawei has 20 offices in the region and employs more than 1,900 employees in the Middle East and North Africa.
