Sun academy to be set up in Jordan

Sun is working with the German Jordanian University to develop the skills in the IT sector.

The university has signed an agreement with Sun Microsystems to launch a Sun Authorised Academic Institution (SAI), which will draw on Sun's technical expertise to help Jordan's emerging generation of developers and IT managers.

Sun OS and Java technologies would also be high on the agenda for the forthcoming education labs, the vendor said.

SAI said it would provide practical support and education to partners and customers from Jordan and surrounding countries, helping to support the development of IT infrastructure in the region.

"Through SAI, the University will develop modern and practical ICT-related educational programmes that are in tune with the increasing demands of the regional market," said professor Labib Khadra, president of the German-Jordanian University. "The goal is to help Jordan and the region shift towards a stronger knowledge economy."
