Dubai will host the FIRST Global Robotics Challenge, an international robotics competition for school students, in October.

The contest, which was launched in the United States in 2017, challenges national teams of children from 14 to 18 years, to design and build robots to address challenges set by the US National Academy of Engineering.

The content aims to attract over 2,000 students from 193 countries. The competition was created to encourage children's interest in STEM education.

Dean Kamen, Founder of FIRST Global, commented: "At this global challenge event in October, we aim to provide an opportunity for thousands of students who want to make a positive impact in the world through science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Hosting the FIRST Global challenge in Dubai reaffirms the importance of this event in the design of robots, the further development of technology skills for young people and further reinforces Dubai's interest in this futuristic sector. "

The inaugural edition of the competition challenged students to develop robotics solutions to improve access to clean water in Washington DC in 2017, while the 2018 contest in Mexico City addressed the challenge of sustainable energy saving techniques.
