Hackathon challenges teams to find solutions using government data
The first phase of the Abu Dhabi Hackathon is underway, with 300 students, employees and business owners taking part in the event.
The Hackathon, which is organised by the UAE Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA), is being held under the theme of ‘Data for Happiness and Quality of Life'. The three-day event will teach participants about data analysis tools, data presentation tools, data concepts, how to work with UAE government data, and advanced geospatial data.
The competition includes set challenges to utilise government data to create solutions in areas including food security, civil defence, disease control, as well as justice, community relations and enhancing lifestyle in the UAE.
The teams will have two days to develop their projects, with judging on the third day by a panel of experts, academics and officials.
Ideas will be judged on factors including the feasibility of the solution or project, its applicability on the ground and its reliance on real data from the available government data platform
HE Hamad Obaid Al Mansouri, TRA Director General, commented: "The UAE Hackathon coincides with the Month of Innovation, in a clear message that the UAE seeks to be among the most innovative countries in the world, in line with UAE Vision 2021 and the National Agenda, as well as by looking ahead, strengthening national competencies in a competitive environment driven by like-mindedness, teamwork and developing creative ideas to tackle the challenges.
