Oracle has announced that it will acquire Talari Networks, a provider of Software-Defined Wide Area Network (SD-WAN) technology.

Talari's technology provides centralized control and improved application performance, and has a customer base of over 500 customers in over 40 countries. The company's Failsafe technology enhances the benefits of SD-WAN by adding greater reliability and predictability while maintaining security for site-to-site and site-to-cloud connectivity and application access over any IP network.

Financial details of the deal were not disclosed, although the transaction is expected to complete this year.

Oracle said that the addition of Talari's technology will complement Oracle Communications' leading Session Border Controller (SBC) and network management infrastructure by adding high availability and Quality-of-Experience (QoE) connectivity and cloud application access across any IP network with the reliability and predictability of private networks. Together, Oracle and Talari will accelerate digital transformation and cloud adoption by providing companies with complete enterprise network solutions that ensure reliability and performance of real-time communications and mission-critical applications over any network.

In a letter to customers and partners, Douglas Suriano, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Oracle Communications Global Business Unit said: "We are thrilled to join forces with Talari and welcome their team to Oracle's Communications Global Business Unit.

"Oracle's industry organisations maintain unique domain knowledge, specialized expertise and focused product investments, which currently includes more than 21,000 Oracle employees and over $700 million in annual R&D spend. This model has proven highly successful across several industries, and we look forward to bringing these same benefits to the customers of Talari."

Drew Lydecker, President and Co-Founder of AVANT, the first and only master agent distributing Talari services, Commented on the deal: "The pace of change in IT is continuing to accelerate. Companies people have never heard of just a few years ago are disrupting the IT landscape. SD-WAN is the latest example and Talari is the prototypical disruptor. The network world has not changed much over the past decade, but enterprise network and data centre needs are changing dramatically with migration to cloud services, growing mobile workforce, and dramatically changing enterprise WAN network patterns."
