Veritas launches new version of NetBackup
New interface helps staff across the enterprise to manage data backup
Veritas has launched a new version of its flagship NetBackup data protection solution, with major improvements to the user interface.
Veritas NetBackup 8.1.2 features a new user interface that simplifies how employees, both IT and and non-IT, can administer protection and backup for their own data.
The solution has been designed to offer best-in-class data protection for multi-cloud, virtual, physical, and next-generation workloads with petabyte-scale performance, all managed from a single console. The solution has been engineered to protect traditional IT workloads, as well as big data analytics platforms, Open Source databases, and hyper-converged infrastructure,
"The explosion of data and the need to protect it, combined with new technologies, web-based workloads and mobile applications are reshaping customer expectations and fostering a new demand for consistent, yet personalized experiences," said Jane Zhu, senior vice president of Data Protection and Governance Engineering, Veritas.
"Our customer user experience is one of the critical priorities we're focusing on today. Simplifying, standardizing and unifying the look and feel of our NetBackup user interface is the first step on this important journey."
Veritas NetBackup 8.1.2 also offers increased functionality and enterprise-scale backup for VMware customers, as well as integration with other modern workloads. This is achieved through instant access to their systems with the new interface and the ability to restore a single file without an agent. NetBackup supports Hadoop, Nutanix, MySQL, PostgreSQL, MariaDB, SQLite, HBase and MongoDB.
The new user interface has been developed by a dedicated design team at Veritas, based on feedback from thousands of customers and partners worldwide. The design teams have incorporated this feedback and streamlined the workflow of NetBackup to increase its usability and help customers reduce the complexity of all data backup and recovery tasks. The new interface allows enables users to administer and monitor data protection processes with just a few clicks, from desktop or mobile devices.
Veritas NetBackup 8.1.2's new automation options and integration with the snapshot-based data protection of Veritas CloudPoint 2.1.
"Businesses require technology that enables them to simply and seamlessly back-up and restore data wherever it resides and handover some of the responsibilities to the business owners," said Christophe Bertrand, senior analyst, Enterprise Strategy Group. "User experience will have a significant impact on the success of these initiatives. With the new interface of NetBackup and a strategic companywide focus on user experience, Veritas enables customers to protect their workloads and restore them instantly, when they require the data."
