Abu Dhabi Municipality tests video for building permit process
Webex video system to connect stakeholders in building permit applications
Abu Dhabi City Municipality has launched a trial to test video communications to eliminate physcial visits from the building permits process.
The trial will enable a video system to connect participants in the building permit applications and approvals process, including institutions, departments, consultant offices, developers and property owners.
The system is intended to allow review of layouts, discussions, reviews and approvals of all phases of the application process, and remove the need for stakeholders to visit the Municipality.
The solution has been launched as part of UAE Innovation Month, which runs during February.

The step applies to all visitors, property owners and consultants, in addition to all other information required for issuing building permits," Al Qubaisi added.
"The Video communication system is a key step towards automating and advancing services them in keeping with the rapid developments adopted in customers' communication technology to achieve transparency & credibility to municipal services and its ties with all concerned parties. It is also intended to achieve the highest levels of accuracy in reviewing project plans & designs, coordinating directly with consultant offices & developers, and discussing all developments. This would expedite transaction processing and issuance of building permit optimally. Moreover, Video Communication will become a key element, and important tool for governments, companies and service providers. It will revolutionise our work mechanism, and will soon become the preferred means of communication."
Engineer Khalfan Sultan Al Nuaimi, Acting Executive Director of Urban Planning Division, Abu Dhabi Municipality, said: "The Video Communication System echoes the essence of the Municipality in its pursuit towards excellence. It also illustrates the endeavours of Abu Dhabi Government towards providing smart services to serve the community in keeping up with the latest developments used worldwide. Therefore, the Municipality has launched the "Video Communication" system, an electronic system to provide information and forge an effective partnership with customers in building permits as we consider the community & customers service as a top priority.
"The system provides easy means that enable customers to track their transactions and take the final decision. It also ensures the highest accuracy and review of the Building Permits Division. These operations are carried out electronically through the Video Communication System (Cisco Webex Meeting) online. The System has also become part of the daily routine of many government agencies in keeping with the new development. Therefore, a video collaboration between employees and customers has become one of the most effective tools of communication.
"The system will cut the costs of obtaining permits and establishes effective communication with the engineers at the Building Permits Division as part of the permit issuance phases, which includes the preliminary review of layouts, followed by the basic phase of the review and approval of the layouts. These phases are then followed by discussing and approving the transaction before the final step of issuing the permit which comes as part of Municipality's plan to issue permits without requiring customers to attend to the Municipality's premises in person."
