Seagate promotes Skyhawk and Skyhawk AI drives
Vendor to raise channel and market awareness about it's security and surveillance solutions
Seagate Technology, a global provider of data storage technology was at Intersec 2018 to put focus on its surveillance optimised hard disk drives (HDD) product line up.
Seagate has two main product lines in the surveillance space namely Skyhawk, which is specifically optimised for general surveillance applications and the other one is Skyhawk AI, which specifically deals with the activity and excitement in the industry today around artificial intelligence, cognitive data, advanced technology and advanced analytics systems.
Steve Jones, surveillance lead, EMEA at Seagate, said that: "We participated at Intersec 2018 to effectively tell the industry that although we are a data storage company, we also are very much aligned to the surveillance industry," he said. "In addition, we also understand the surveillance technology and have close alliances with strategic surveillance partners within the industry including Hikvison, Dahua Technology and Milestone Systems."
Jones said it's important for Seagate to be aligned with the surveillance market and most importantly to be able to provide channel partners and customers in the surveillance industry.
He said with data growth expected to rise exponentially in the future as predicted in the recent IDC Data Age 2025 white paper, Seagate will continue to enable and manage the industry's developments, supporting customers' ever-growing data requirements and ensuring the market is well equipped to handle the demands of advanced security systems while maintaining the highest levels of performance. "The trends that we see not just in our industry but the general data industry is that data is more at the edge," he said. "It's not about just surveillance and recording all data, but highlighting data that is really important and this is the message behind AI and cognitive systems."
He explained that the intelligence is now being embedded more at the edge and it's about extracting that intelligence and providing business users and surveillance operators with good robust, smart and secure data. "That is why we recently launched a product called Skyhawk AI, which is specifically optimised for this type of applications and operations," he said.
Jones pointed out that how Seagate educates its channel partners is through go-to-market campaigns and the company has been investing in public relations activities, trade shows and localised and regionalised IT events. "Effectively, our messaging to the surveillance and data storage industry is that we are surveillance aligned and provide the right drives for surveillance applications, AI and systems," he said.
