Ministry of Economy holds hackathon
Hackathon held to develop employee's innovation and creative thinking
The UAE Ministry of Economy has held a hackathon to increase employee innovation and help develop new services based on technology.
The hackathon, which took place on 11-12th December, was part of initiatives by the Ministry's innovation team to increase the capacity of Ministry employees to create solutions to challenges using creative ideas and new technologies, and to develop new skills and knowledge.
The event was held at the Address Hotel in Dubai under the patronage of His Excellency Sultan bin Saeed Al Mansoori, Minister of Economy.
The hackathon included group activities focused on knowledge, technological and practical experience, including sessions on government innovation and soft skills, and exercises on how to use innovative tools in the workplace.
Eng. Sultan bin Saeed Al Mansoori said that innovation is a necessity to meet growth requirements, especially given development in technology. He also noted that the government attaches importance to developing its employees and engaging them in excellence in government work.
Al Mansoori added that the hackathon aims to stimulate positive competition, creative thinking and showcase skills with among government institutions and agencies, and to enable employees to develop ideas and experience outside of their usual work routines. The ministry is keen to organise similar events to the hackathon to create an environment of creativity and innovation among employees, he added.
The program included innovation and the use of technologies including blockchain, virtual reality, data analytics, open data, and 3D printing, as well as introducing innovation models and prototyping of ideas. The event also included an innovation studio which review innovation tools and specific case studies.
