UAE's Thuraya telecom unveils VoIP app
The Thuraya Talk app will enable users to make voice calls and send text messages
Thuraya Telecommunications Company has unveiled its own Voice over Internet Protocol service, according to WAM news agency.
The initial phase of Thuraya Talk, the company's new VoIP service, will enable users to make voice calls and send text messages using the app, for both personal and business use. The aim is to offer a convenient way to remain connected.
Users are given their own number, where they will be able to make calls to Thuraya satellite phones, and if they call another Thuraya number, users can save up to 60%. The app can be used over a WiFi network or mobile data, and it is available from the Apple Store or Google Play.
Rashid Baba, acting chief commercial officer at Thuraya, said: "Thuraya Talk is a perfect example of how we adapt to customer requirements and offer them a high quality service in an easy, convenient and affordable way to enable them to stay in touch with their family and friends."
The second phase will introduce simultaneous voice and data for the first time on Thuraya's satellite network. Thuraya Talk can be used as a convenient add-on solution to any Thuraya broadband terminal. By connecting the VoIP Gate adapter to the terminal, the customer will be able to use any analogue phone to make and receive VoIP calls for operational purposes.
Puneet Lihala, Thuraya Talk product manager, added: "Through future enhancements, we also aim to make Thuraya Talk the go-to app for maritime crew welfare, by adapting it to become the ideal solution for crew on board ships to stay in touch with family and friends."
