Harry Potter AR game in the works
Pokémon Go creators are developing an augmented reality game for Harry Potter fans
The creators behind Pokémon Go are now working towards developing an augmented-reality (AR) enabled Harry Potter gaming.
Niantic Labs first released Pokémon Go in 2016, causing a massive frenzy among users who searched high and low for Pokémon figures.
Now, in collaboration with Warner Bros. Interactive and its sub brand Portkey Games, Niantic Labs is turning its focus to Harry Potter. The game, which will be named Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, is expected to launch in 2018.
The app itself is now available, however the details are limited. In an official announcement, Niantic Labs said:
‘We're incredibly excited to announce this next step in the evolution of AR mobile entertainment. With Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, players that have been dreaming of becoming real life Wizards will finally get the chance to experience J.K. Rowling's Wizarding World. Players will learn spells, explore their real world neighbourhoods and cities to discover & fight legendary beasts and team up with others to take down powerful enemies."
Similar to the Pokémon Go AR game, the new app will rely on location-based AR capabilities.
