During this year's RIPE 75, the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) has unveiled the Internet Protocol Version 6 (IPv6).

The introduction is in light of emerging technologies, such as the big data era, Internet of Things (IoT), e-commerce and the UAE's smart transformation.

H.E. Hamad Obaid Al Mansoori, Director General, TRA, stated that many of the UAE's future initiatives rely on the Internet, such as the launch of the UAE Strategy for Artificial Intelligence. He also pointed out that securing the necessary protocols for the flow of information achieves the UN sustainable development goals in significantly increasing access to information and communications technology and providing universal and affordable access to the Internet.

The TRA also signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with RIPE NCC, which will see an exchange of expertise between different sectors to develop the Internet, as well as organise awareness and training on IPv6.

The MoU will launch RIPE ATLAS, an advanced Internet-measuring platform to increase the tools for analysing the performance of Internet networks and data, for both local, regional and international communities.

RIPE 75 meeting is an international gathering that includes ICT industry leaders and important Internet providers and operators, to participate in discussions on the Internet and effective policies implemented by RIPE NCC to allocate internet resources in the UAE, and the MENA.

The meeting is held with a wide range of local, regional and global names representing the ICT sector, including, Google, Microsoft, Amazon, Apple, Facebook, LinkedIn, Nokia, Deutsche Telecom, Netflix, Orange, Omantel, OGERO, VIVA, du, Etisalat, as well as other government entities.
