Huawei Consumer Business Group has unveiled its latest range of AI-enabled smartphones, the Mate 10, Mate 10 Pro and the Porsche Design Mate 10.

Prior to the launch, Huawei has not shied away from its competition as the Chinese manufacturer has said it is prepared to go head-to-head with the likes of Apple's iPhone 8, Samsung's Galaxy S8 and Note8 and Google's Pixel 2.

From the specs, it appears Huawei's artificial intelligence (AI) hardware is a key feature. The latest additions to the Mate 10 series have a strong focus on AI as Huawei introduces its Kirin 970 AI processor chip, which has a dedicated Neural Network Processing Unit (NPU).

The Kirin 970 processor aims to deliver faster and more personalised experience, claiming to offer 25x enhanced performance and 50x greater energy. Additionally the processor also had a dual ISP for the AI-powered intelligent camera.

The design itself sticks to the current bezel-less design, however the Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro handsets have a few select size and shape differences.

The Mate 10 features a 5'9-inch screen with a 16:9 display, along with HDR10 support for vivid colours. The Mate 10 Pro features a 6-inch screen and 18:9 OLED display. Both feature a 3D glass body with curved edges and a reflective band to show off the Leica dual camera.

Speaking of the camera, Huawei has stuck with Leica to co-engineer dual lenses, which combine 12-megapixel RGB + 20-megapixel monochromes sensors. Furthermore, with its AI capabilities, the camera is able to identify 13 objects, such as food, flowers and weather, which in return offers clearer and sharper pictures.

Under the hood, the devices run on EMUI 8.0 powered by Android 8.0. The Mate 10 offers 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage and the Mate 10 Pro offers 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. Both the Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro packs a 4000 mAh high-density battery which is combined with Huawei SuperCharge, offering a 1% to 58% charge in 30 minutes.

The Mate 10 is available in Mocha Brown, Black, Champagne Gold and Pink Gold and the Mate 10 Pro is available in Midnight Blue, Titanium Grey, Mocha Brown and Pink Gold. Both handsets will be available in the Middle East and Africa region on 30 October.
