IoT labs hopes to tap demand in sectors such as logistics.

IOT Labs, a technology company based in Dubai, is busy developing next generation logistics and tracking solutions using the latest Internet of Things (IoT) technology, and is keen to promote its activities at GITEX Technology Week.

The company, which is part of Abu Dhabi-based Fanna Technology, builds on the skills of its parent company by creating solutions and applications for RFID technology, including location and tracking services.

IOT Labs' solutions have broad applications in industries such as logistics, distribution and retail. The company has developed a system which it refers to as "E-shelf" which focuses on how to track an object or file, such as spare parts in a warehouse, or hospital records.

The company also has a solution aimed for asset and cargo management. The solution makes use of different kinds of sensors, such as sound, temperature, humidity and light. The system allows the user to track objects such as inventory without the need for a bar-code reader or RFID reader. The owner of the inventory will know how its items have been stored; for example whether they have been kept at the correct temperature, and whether boxes have been opened. "The object will be read automatically. When it is taken from the shelf it will be tracked and you can see it in the inventory. This real time location system is completely new.

"The sensors are very important. It is a new technology that can complement the existing technology available nowadays," Aljunaibi adds.

The company has also developed a precision location solution for Bluetooth devices, allowing it to track people and assets. This system we can locate an object within a 10cm limit.
