Nintendo's Mario is moving on from the plumbing profession.

Nintendo has confirmed that Mario is no longer a plumber but instead is now an all-rounder in ‘everything cool'.

Nintendo's Japanese site, first spotted and translated by Kotaku, reported that Mario's profile page had been updated revealing he left the profession a long time ago.

"All around sporty, whether it's tennis or baseball, soccer or car racing, [Mario] does everything cool. As a matter of fact, he also seems to have worked as a plumber a long time ago..."

We cannot confirm if Mario was made redundant or whether he fancied a change into the sporting world, but his career has certainly been eventful. Apart from his plumber days, co-representative director Shigeru Miyamoto called Mario a carpenter in the 1981 Donkey Kong game. He sooner after also served as doctor and cement factory worker in the Super Mario Bros game.

Mario will next feature in Super Mario Odyssey, which is set to release for the Nintendo Switch on 27 October.
