Smart Dubai sponsors participation in Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing
Smart Dubai Office has sponsored the Emirates Digital Association for Women to participate in the annual Grace Hopper Celebration (GHC) of Women in Computing.
The GHC is an annual conference, held in the US, which brings together women in computing to discuss research and career interests.
The three day event is presented by the Anita Borg Institute and the Association of Computing Machinery (ACM), and was inspired by the legacy of Admiral Grace Murray Hopper, a pioneer in computer programming. The event is the largest annual gathering of women from the ICT sector.
The Smart Dubai Office sponsorship is part of its continued efforts to highlight the achievements of Emirati women, especially in international forums, in addition to the Office's efforts to empower Emirati women and provide all support needed to develop their skills in the latest tech innovations globally.
"The continued progress and development by the UAE women at local and international levels is the result of the continuous support and guidance of our wise leadership, which aims to raise the status of women in society," said Dr Aisha Bint Butti Bin Bishr, Director General of the Smart Dubai Office.
She added: "The UAE Emirati Women's Day, launched by Her Highness Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak, President of the General Women's Union, Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation, and Chairwoman of Motherhood and Childhood Supreme Council, is celebrated on 28th August in recognition and respect for the role of women in building the UAE society and her pivotal role in the overall development of the nation."
She added: "At Smart Dubai Office, we underline our commitment to provide all support to Emirati women, and work to elevate them, increase their educational achievement within and outside the country, and enhance their vital role in building the country."
HE Shamsa Saleh, CEO of Dubai Women Establishment, commended the efforts of Smart Dubai to empower Emirati women in the field of information technology by sponsoring the participation of Emirates Digital Association for Women at the Grace Hopper Conference 2017.
HE Saleh said: "The participation of Emirati females in the largest global conference for women in computing resonates with the vision of our wise leadership to create access to economic opportunities by facilitating knowledge building across STEM fields.
"The Smart Dubai initiative is in line with the strategic objectives of DWE to strengthen Emirati women participation across all sectors of economy, and to encourage them to continue active contribution in sustainable development of the nation.
"This representation of Emirati women in the international forum will also help boost leadership skills of national women in fields of IT by fostering partnerships between public and private sector; as well strengthening their participation in the field of computer sciences."
Shamaa Almigini from the Emirates Digital Association for Women added: "The Emirates Digital Association for Women seeks to support women by organising and providing innovative and diverse programmes to build the capacity of its members in the field of information systems and technology. I am an engineering student from Khalifa University and I participated in this programme with five of the Association's distinguished members to represent UAE at this conference and benefit from the workshops, panel discussions and exhibitions that introduce the latest in technology and information systems.
