Veeam Cloud backup service deployed by KACST
KACST is a government entity dedicated to the development of Saudi Arabia’s scientific and technological research community
The King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST), a government body dedicated to the development of scientific and technological research community, has adopted Veeam Availability Suite from Veeam Software.
Overseen by KACST's Internet Services Unit (ISU), the implementation will enable the government entity to deliver uninterrupted access for researchers to critical data.
Part of Veeam's Backup-as-a-Service (BaaS) offerings, Veeam Availability Suite will be integrated directly with VMware VRealize Suite. This will allow connected end-users from the science community to oversee their own backup operations, while also managing virtual machines involved throughout the backup process.
Abdulmajeed R. Al-Osaimi, manager of the System & Development Department at ISU, commented: "If we fail to deliver their data 24.7.365, we put them at risk for downtime, and we lose their trust ... downtime can derail their testing and research and can cripple their business processes. If they can't access their data, we have failed them."
In addition to delivery BaaS, Veeam is also assisting the ISU with managing and avoiding downtime as much as possible. The collaboration also involves capacity planning, to ensure that the service remains uninterrupted in the face of evolving utilisation trends.
"Our job is to provide high availability to the organizations that conduct scientific research and foster technological innovation," added Al-Osaimi.
"Veeam helps us deliver 24.7.365 Availability of the data that becomes the catalyst for discovery, economic development and social prosperity."
Providing Cloud and hosted services to over 30 organisations active within the nation's science community, ISU oversees numerous service level agreements (SLAs) with a key focus on business continuity. ISU's IT infrastructure is built upon VMware technology, which includes VMware sphere, VMware NSX and VMware vRealize Suite.
