Research from Strategy Analytics revealed top five selling smartphones in Q2 2017
A report from Strategy Analytics revealed that in Q2 2017 Apple's iPhone 7 was the most popular smartphone and Samsung's Galaxy S8 was the world's best-selling Android smartphone.
Neil Mawston, executive director at Strategy Analytics, said: "Global smartphone shipments reached a robust 360.4 million units in Q2 2017. The top-five most popular models together accounted for 1 in 6 of all smartphones shipped worldwide during the quarter."
The report discovered that from April through to June Apple shipped 16.9 million units of the 4.7-inch iPhone 7 marking it in first place. Apple's 5.5-inch iPhone 7 Plus followed in second with 15.1 million units.
In third place was Samsung's Galaxy S8 with 10.2 million units and the Galaxy S8+ followed with 9 million units. In fifth place was Xiaomi Redmi 4A at 5.5 million smartphones.
The results show a year-over-year increase of 5.5% as 341.5 million smartphones were shipped in Q2 2016.
Strategy Analytics analysts say that the iPhone remains a popular smartphone overall due to a ‘user-friendly design, extensive supporting apps and widespread retail presence'. The analysts also comment on Samsung being a favourite Android smartphone, which is down to the ‘curved-screen design and a rich portfolio of software apps'.
Xiaomi is also becoming popular across Asia, and is also the largest smartphone vendor in China and second largest in India.
