Dubai Silicon Park wins GTB Innovation Award for infrastructure

Dubai Silicon Oasis Authority (DSOA) and NXN have won a Global Telecoms Business (GTB) Innovation Award for the Silicon Park Smart District.

The award for Best Infrastructure Innovation, was presented jointly to DSOA and smart city consultancy and service provider NXN at a ceremony in London.

The Global Telecoms Business (GTB) Innovation Awards recognise significant projects in telecommunications.

The Silicon Park Smart District is the first integrated smart city project in Dubai, and includes smart street features like charging docks and bus shelters, smart lighting, smart building controls and green buildings, renewable energy sources, autonomous vehicles and electric car infrastructure.

The award was received based on several criteria including the overall Smart District ICT concept design, technology blueprint and service delivery framework for the Silicon Park project in Dubai Silicon Oasis. The project defines Smart District Services and value propositions, as well as develops detailed technical design and specifications that make it future proof, readily able to take on more smart services as they became available or relevant in the future.

Currently under construction at an estimated total cost of AED1.3 billion ($356 million) spanning an area of 150,000 square meters, Silicon Park will comprise 71,000 square meters of office space, 25,000 square meters of commercial space, 46,000 square meters of residential area as well as 112-key business hotel and 59-room furnished apartment Radisson RED Dubai Silicon Oasis. In addition, it will feature value-added contemporary lifestyle facilities, such as restaurants, cafés, prayer rooms, a shopping centre and an underground parking space that can accommodate more than 2,500 cars.
