Intel starts pre-orders of its Core X-series processors
Chip maker to start shipping 14- to 18-core processors in October 2017
Chip designer, Intel has started pre-orders of its 4- to 10-core Intel Core X-series processors at a variety of channel partners.
The company said this is the first set of five of the nine total SKUs - to roll out in this new family of processors.
The chip maker stated that the latest processor offering is the most powerful, scalable and accessible desktop platform that offers a range of processors from 4 to 18 cores with price points to match.
According to Intel, the new platform delivers extreme performance to meet the processing demands for today's enthusiasts in gaming, content creation, virtual reality (VR) and overclocking. The company added that the 10-core processor gains up to 14% faster multithread performance and up to 15% single-thread performance over the previous generation.
Intel said the SKUs available for pre-order in are: Intel Core i5-7640X X-series processor and will sell for $242, Intel Core i7-7740X X-series processor priced at $339, Intel Core i7-7800X X-series processor recommended for $389, Intel Core i7-7820X X-series processor selling at $599 and Intel Core i9-7900X X-series processor going for $999.
Intel stated that the 12-core processor is expected to start shipping in August 2017 and 14- to 18-core processors are expected to start shipping in October.
