Herbert Fuchs has been appointed by Al Shafar General Contracting (ASGC) to serve as the construction company's first chief information officer (CIO).

The new CIO is tasked in overseeing ASGC's digital transformation and meeting increasing market demand for digital technologies, as well as the sector's growing need for technology-enabled processes.

Bishoy Azmy, CEO of ASGC, said: "Every single industry will go through massive digital disruption over the next decade. If you want to survive and thrive, you need to transform. With Fuchs' considerable expertise, we look forward to entering the next phase of our company's growth while driving efficiency through digitally-integrated processes."

Fuchs brings more than 25 years of experience, working with globally recognised corporations. These include General Electric, ACS, Stryker, United Arab Shipping Company, and the McDonald's Corporation.

In his various roles, Fuchs was actively involved in devising company strategy, as well as creating clear paths for digital transformation. The CIO holds both an MSc in Information Security and an Executive MBA in Information and Communication Technology.

Commenting on his appointment, Fuchs said: "There is significant development in the technology sector that can help ASGC and our partners to become more streamlined in their operations, enabling all divisions of the company to become more efficient. It is my pleasure to contribute to ASGC's digital transformation in the years to come."

Established in 1989, ASGC quickly became a well-reputed name within the UAE's construction industry. Recently, the company completed works on Etihad Museum, The Onyx, and Marina Bloom. ASGC is currently the main contractor on both The Dubai Mall expansion and Mohamed Bin Rashid Library projects.
