Etisalat customers are being sought out by con artists claiming they have won cash prizes.

The National reported that Etisalat customers were being inundated with calls from fake telecom employees duping them to reveal sensitive and personal information.

This type of scam is not new, however it is now moving towards other realms such as WhatsApp where scammers are using the platform to engage with recipients and gather sensitive information.

Cyber security experts have also highlights SIM card swap fraud where scammers steal a person's identity and then trick telecoms companies to receive a SIM card allowing them to access banking information.

Dubai Police has also warned the public to never store debit and credit card data on their phones, as well as avoid clicking on suspicious links and using illegal software.

The warning comes after Dubai Police noticed an increase in hacked credit and debit card cases.
