The region's first video-based social network, dubbed HighlyRated.com, has landed in the Middle East with the intent to allow users to create their own network.

The social network, along with its mascot Pablo the Panda, will encourage users to ‘Rate, Create, and Participate', meaning upload and create content for a variety of categories and connect with other users, both regionally and globally.

Entrepreneurs, Acer Jamal and Stefan Cudby, created HighlyRated.com, where users are encouraged to Rate or Hate videos based on their merit. Videos that are then the most ‘rated' will appear on the site's homepage, providing the user with higher visibility and connectivity.

CEO Acer Jamal said: "The beta launch of the site was very positive - even with very optimistic expectations, so we're delighted with the response so far. Having both lived in the UAE on and off for over 25 years, we chose to launch our Middle East office here in the UAE due to its reputation as a hub for entrepreneurship.

"Also MENA is our main focus initially before we expand outward. With the high response and feedback so far, we will be accelerating launching phases 2 and 3 in the upcoming weeks."
