Apple’s iPhone 7 home button dubbed useless without skin contact

Users have claimed that the new pressure-sensitive home button only works with selected gloves

iPhone 7 user Myke Hurley was the first to notice the issue and took to Twitter, where he tweeted: "No sensor connection, no click."

When Apple launched the iPhone 7, along with its pressure-sensitive home button, its new feature meant instead of clicking the home button, it would instead respond with a vibration.

The handset is now embedded with a Taptic Engine, which provides the feeling that the user is pressing the home button even though no physical part has moved. However, reports have claimed that the home button is in fact useless when touched with selected gloves, and only works at its best with direct skin contact.

iPhone 7 user Myke Hurley was the first to notice the issue and took to Twitter, where he tweeted: "No sensor connection, no click." 

Whilst this may not appear as a huge issue, it could be seen as frustrating, especially when users are wearing normal gloves and need to function their handset. However, reports have also emerged that it is not only normal gloves that do not connect, but in fact touchscreen friendly gloves that are embedded with conductive material on the fingertips are also not compatible with the new home screen.

To add to the problem, the latest iOS 10 update requires a home button press to access the main screen, unlike before when a user could swipe the screen to access the passcode entry screen.  

Apple is yet to respond to the matter.
