Domainers Meet comes to Dubai
The conference will tackle the region's lack of understanding in domain related expertise
With the global boom in the domain world, the industry has seen an unprecedented growth in the past 30 years with over 300m domains registered.
To introduce the domain market, YUP2 Events LCC in association with World Domain Owners Association, has announced the GCC's first ever International Domain Industry Domainers Meet conference in Dubai to be held on 23 and 24 April.
From 1985 when the first domain name Symbolic.com was registered till 2010 over 185m domain names were registered, opening the market to an entirely new industry that has helped shape and grow the world's most successful corporations. Now the annual domain industry revenue is roughly $2.7bn to $3bn, from which $450m to $500, is achieved through after-sales.
Domainers Meet 2016 offers a view inside this scarcely tapped into market within the region, exploring one of the most thriving industries within the online market. By the end of 2009 domain registration within the UAE rose by a whopping 30% and by 2015 over 175,000 domain names were registered.
Adam Wagner, founder and CEO of GCCInternet.com, advises individuals and businesses on strategic domain names.
"To put it simply a domain name is a web address which effectively helps companies and individuals to communicate both online and offline, however it is the high-quality domain names that will gain long-term profits and recognition in a financially effective way," said Wagner.
"There is huge disproportion when it comes to the registered domain names in the UAE, compared to, say the German market, therefore I see a gap between this and the business development across all sectors of economy in the region."
Wagner explained the quality of the domain name is what drives business growth, but the gap of recognition and quality when registering a domain name is what can have a negative effect. However if the domain is specific and includes the right words which link the brand, Wagner believes this is an effective marketing tool in itself.
Mr. Anilkumar, director business development at Domainers Meet added, "The domain industry is booming and we only expect a further increase in the coming years. Contrary to the understanding of many, there is an incredible range of domain names available that offer a more innovative portrayal of websites, some include, .academy, .management, .estate, .clothing and much more, up to 1507 more in fact. Domain extensions now offer a more memorable means of positioning a website, not only explaining what the company does but also allows one to stand out from competitors."
As a large niche in the regional market comes from a lack of understanding in domain related expertise, the Domainers Meet 2016 looks to provide an opportunity to understand how the domain industry works.
The conference will be held at Hotel Radisson Blu in Dubai on the 23 and 24 April.
