Smartworld transforms HQ with Cisco solution
Smartworld adopts Cisco's Digital Ceiling framework and Philips Lighting to create intelligent workspace
Smartworld, an Etisalat and Dubai South joint venture, has deployed Cisco's Digital Ceiling framework with Philips Lighting to create a connected indoor space at its headquarters in the Middle East.
The implementation brings together Cisco's IT network with LED connected lighting system from Philips Lighting to enable Smartworld to deliver an intelligent working environment for employees and guests.
With Smartworld's building services connected onto a single converged IP network, it will bring human-centric environments, optimised workspaces, streamlined maintenance, and reduced energy consumption and operating expenses.
Abdulqader Obaid Ali, chief executive officer at Smartworld said: "The potential of the Digital Ceiling goes beyond optimising building systems and creates a platform for a new ecosystem of building applications and services. It gives us new opportunities for transformational applications, analytics and business intelligence, and delivers the essential capabilities needed to make cost savings a reality. Our office building will act as a proof-of-concept for developers and organisations looking to build smart and intelligent buildings in Dubai South and the UAE."
Additionally Cisco is working with industry experts in lighting, building automation control, enablers and ISVs to deliver and connect with the Digital Ceiling framework. The Smartworld implementation includes Siemon's ConvergeIT cabling infrastructure and Philips' connected LED office lighting luminaires that feature integrated sensors and smartphone applications for personal preference.
The Philips LED light fixtures are equipped with sensors that are connected to the Cisco Power over the Ethernet network. Paolo Cervini, market leader, MET at Philips Lighting stated real-time information provided by the lighting system, such as energy use and room occupancy data, provide managers with a wealth of data, enabling them to make informed business decisions and reduce operational costs. Also, employees can use their smartphones to adjust light levels and climate control, personalising their overall working environment.
Smartworld plans to work with Cisco's Digital Ceiling partner community to help other customers in the UAE and Middle East move to a Digital Ceiling using the most efficient connected IoT endpoints from innovators in lighting and other building control systems.
