The new backup solutions help the CSC to protect critical data.

The Civil Services Commission (CSC) of Kuwait has selected backup solutions from EMC to help manage its critical data.

The CSC is responsible for overseeing the development and performance of civil service systems and staff across the State of Kuwait, including recruitment, payroll and training for all government entities. As such, the Commission required proper protection and storage of critical data, as well as as uninterrupted access and delivery to internal and remote users across the nation.

In addition, the CSC needed a solution that would minimize duplication of data across sites and departments, to enhance performance while effectively enabling mandatory data retention periods.

CSC has selected EMC Avamar and EMC Data Domain for backup and data deduplication. Benefits of the solutions include reduced backup time frames, more cost effective storage utilisation, continuous data protection and better adherence to compliance requirements.

The new solution completely replaces tape based infrastructure with a complete end-to-end backup and recovery solution, improving storage utilisation by 420% and simplifying storage administration.

The project also includes the deployment of EMC RecoverPoint to enable continuous data protection and to enable application recovery at any point in time.

Ahmed Al Abd AlJalil, Undersecretary for IT at Civil Services Commission Kuwait commented: "The Civil Services Commission is a critical brick in the foundation of the government's agenda to transform the performance and provision of government services across the nation. Together with EMC we have created the next generation backup and recovery infrastructure that is suited to our role and responsibilities, the deployment saves us precious operational time and helps in improving the performance of critical applications across remote locations and users. Most importantly, the deployment allows our teams to focus on innovation thanks to the near real time recovery capabilities. We truly believe that we have made the right decision by choosing the EMC backup and recovery platform and look forward to extending this journey into the future."

"With its mandate to service critical information and applications for all public entities across Kuwait, the Civil Services Commission needed next generation backup and recovery infrastructure that provided the resiliency, scale and performance needed to cope with steadily growing volumes of data. After careful consideration of the various objectives, the entity has selected best in class solutions from the EMC Data Protection and Availability division to create an end to end backup and recovery environment that allows the team to drive service levels improve storage utilization and avail new efficiencies," added Habib Mahakian, vice president, Gulf and Pakistan, EMC Corporation.
