Shafik will drive and manage Quantum Global's entire distribution channel business, supporting distributors, traditional reseller channels and retailers across EMEA.

OEM mobile device brand Quantum Global, has appointed Mohamed Shafik as the new Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA), distribution director.

In this new role, Shafik will drive and manage Quantum Global's entire distribution channel business, supporting distributors, traditional reseller channels and retailers across EMEA.

In addition, Shafik will also be responsible for helping the company to define the right partner strategy for each country Quantum has presence in across EMEA, identify and sign new distributors and channel partners, define the go-to-market strategy and help to grow channel sales of both tablets and smartphones.

According to the Dubai-based manufacturer of tablets, smart phones and hybrid notebook PCs, Shafik's appointment as the new distribution director for EMEA will help Quantum Global to cement its footprint and business in the traditional reseller channel and consumer electronics segment across EMEA.

Tamer Ismail, CEO, Quantum Global, said the company is happy to have Mohamed Shafik join the team to continue the work that's been done over the last 18 months in the retail and traditional dealer segments in the region.

Ismail said Shafik has immense experience having working for multinationals including Acer and ASUS. "We are delighted to have attracted a top talent in Mohamed. Having him join us at this time of Quantum's journey in the mobile devices market is demonstration that we are serious about taking our business to new heights," he said.

Ismail added that having Mohamed to help us develop the tablet and smartphone business across EMEA demonstrates to all the channel partners that the company is in the market for the long term.

Shafik said taking on this role at a time when Quantum is looking to grow its mobile devices business is exciting because the tier two OEM brands in the region are experiencing phenomenal growth. "My priority in this new position will be to develop and reinforce in-country distribution channels especially in Egypt, KSA, UAE, Nigeria, Kenya and other African countries," he said. "We already have good presence in retail stores and reseller channels in the GCC. In the next month or two, we plan to have in-country presence in Lebanon and Jordan through partners that have good countrywide presence in the two countries."

He added that: "We are focusing the smartphones business across Africa as the continent is projected to have a market of 360m smartphones by 2025, a time when Internet penetration will hit 50%, according to analysts' reports."

He said as the tier one tablet and smartphone brands have seen their business slowdown, the market for Quantum and other brand in this bracket becomes bigger because most customers are switching from 2G to 3G or 3G to 4G handsets depending on the country. "We have seen over the last 12 months OEM brands like Quantum up the game by improving the quality of devices, while the average selling price (ASP) of smartphones has been coming down," he noted.

Shafik said he wants to use Quantum's success inthe tablets sector to build a smartphone business that will continue to grow in the foreseeable future.

Prior to taking on this position, Shafik was business manager for Smartphones at Acer for Middle East and Africa, and country manager for ASUS in Egypt.
