President Barack Obama has commended the UAE in its efforts to deliver e-government and innovation as part of the main opening address for this year's World Government Summit.
Speaking via video link, the US president praised the UAE government for its commitment to e-government, innovation, support for entrepreneurship and clean energy and how it delivers services to citizens.
President Obama told the audience of dignitaries and government leaders assembled in Dubai for the Summit: "I want to commend his highness Sheikh Mohamed Bin Rashid al Maktoum, and the government and the people of the United Arab Emirates in hosting this important summit. Government exists for one reason - to serve our people, to help improve their lives. When governments truly invest in their citizens, their education, skills, and health, when universal human rights are upheld, countries are more peaceful, more prosperous and more successful.
"Here in the UAE, your commitment to e-government and innovation is improving how you deliver services like healthcare, empower entrepreneurs, and advance clean energy, and the United States, including our private sector is proud to be be your partner. It is a model of the collaboration we need in all our countries. Together we can ensure that more of our children get the education that prepares them for the global economy, that economic growth is inclusive and that more communities can do their part to protect our planet. With a commitment to the rule of law and transparency, governments can be more accountable and make it easier for entrepreneurs to collaborate and turn their ideas into reality. With a commitment to justice and human rights, we can uphold the dignity of people of all backgrounds, men and women."
Obama added that as the UAE continues to embrace reform and invest in people it will continue to have a partner in the United States.
