Dell looking to offload Perot Systems - report
Cognizant, NTT Data, Atos SE all competing as potential suitors for $5bn business
Dell is looking to offload one of its IT management businesses, Perot Systems, for more than $5bn, with Cognizant Technology Solutions, NTT Data Corp and Atos SE all competing as potential suitors, according to a report from Reuters.
This latest sale is part of a larger offloading strategy being pursued by Dell, as it hopes to lower the amount of debt it will need to take on as a result of its acquisition of EMC for $66bn. That acquisition is slated for completion by October next year, provided EMC shareholders agree to the deal.
According to Reuters sources, Perot Systems was always planned to be sold by Dell, however it has taken some time for the auction to get going. This is because valuations set by the market haven't yet been high enough for the vendor.
The company was acquired by Dell in 2009 for $3.9bn, having been founded in 1988. It provides IT consulting services to mainly public sector organisations in the United States.
According to Reuters, Dell is also looking to offload Quest Software, and IT management vendor, as well as data security vendor SonicWall and cyber-security unit SecureWorks.
