Abu Dhabi Municipality launches onwani website
The Onwani smart address system helps users to locate addresses in Abu Dhabi.

Abu Dhabi Municipality, in coordination with the Department of Municipal Affairs, has launched a new website to support the Onwani smart addressing system.

Onwani is a smart addressing system that is intended to make navigation and location finding easier in the UAE capital.

The new website, www.onwani.abudhabi.ae is available in Arabic and English, and is intended to help users to find any location in Abu Dhabi with ease. The Municipality say the site is designed to be user friendly, and presents information to cater for different user groups.

The site contains information about the Onwani address system, and allows address searches to be carried out, based on building numbers and street names in the UAE, and provides a route finding facility, with provision for sharing routes with others via social media messages, email and messages. The website features multiple tabs, presenting the latest news, media pages, frequently asked questions, information about QR codes, signs and panels, and a street map with a table, listing old and new street names.

The Department of Municipal Affairs has also launched an Onwani mobile app, which is available for Google Android and iOS devices. In addition to the capabilities of the website, the mobile app allows users to scan building QR codes, and share them with others via social media. Scanning a QR code gives the user immediate access to details about the location, and points of interest nearby. The user can add these locations to favorites, saving them for future reference. The app's convenience allows people to reduce journey time in the event of an emergency, when needing to reach a hospital for example. The entire Emirate of Abu Dhabi will benefit from this app eventually, including Al Ain and the western region.
