Samsung Galaxy S6 range now available in UAE
Prices range from AED2,599 to AED3,799
Samsung Electronics yesterday launched its latest flagship smartphones in the Middle East at an event in Dubai.
Samsung said Dubai was the first city globally to host the Samsung World Tour, which will see the launch of the handsets in a number of territories around the world.
"When consumers see the Samsung Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 edge, they'll see the future of mobility," said Hayssam Yassine, head, Telecommunications Group, Samsung Gulf Electronics.
"Both are dynamic new additions to Samsung's portfolio, but they are also powerful performers and intuitive devices that make sharing, exploring and creating more enjoyable and enriching than ever before. As the next generation in our Galaxy line, the S6 and the S6 edge are designed to help our customers go beyond convention and create meaningful experiences from the palms of their hands."
The South Korean smartphone leader unveiled the handsets initially at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, earlier this month. The Galaxy S6 Edge variant incorporates the oblique-edge interface that debuted in Samsung's latest Galaxy Note range.

Both the S6 and S6 Edge come with a 5.1-inch Quad HD Super AMOLED screen with a pixel density of 577ppi and a tweaked brightness output aimed at enhanced outdoor viewing.
The S6 is 6.8mm thick and weighs 138g, and the S6 Edge measures 7mm and weighs 132g. This is around the same thickness as the Apple iPhone 6 (6.9mm), but the iPhone 6 is a little lighter at 129g.
Samsung claims "the world's first" 14nm mobile processor with 64-bit platform for both S6 models. The devices also have a new LPDDR4 memory system and UFS 2.0 flash memory. The company also touts a world-first for its 1440P/VP9 hardware-based codec, designed for HD streaming video with a lower power-consumption cost.
The S6 Edge, unlike the Note Edge, employs a slanted display surface on either side of the main display, catering to both right- and left-handed users. The screen is made of Corning Gorilla Glass 4 for both the S6 Edge and the S6. Both models come in White Pearl, Black Sapphire, Gold Platinum, Blue Topaz and Green Emerald.
The S6 range uses F1.9 lenses and high-res sensors on both their 5MP front and 16MP rear cameras, along with auto real-time high dynamic range (HDR), smart optical image-stabilisation (OIS) and IR detect white balance, each of which is designed to optimise image elements.

The S6 handsets also come with embedded WPC and PMA-certified wireless charging technology, which means the devices can charge on any wireless pad that also supports WPC and PMA standards. According to Samsung the new handsets also offer significantly higher speeds on wired charging, doing so 1.5 times faster than the Galaxy S5, providing about 4 hours of usage after 10 minutes of charging, based on Samsung's own tests.
The Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge are built on the latest version of Samsung's mobile security platform KNOX. Samsung said both handsets were "ready for immediate enterprise adoption, with market leading MDMs and KNOX enhancements enabled at launch to simplify and improve mobile device management". Also included in the S6 range is the Find My Mobile tool, built to "secure lost devices and protect personal information".
