Qatar’s Ooredoo reaches 100m-subscriber milestone

Qatari telecoms operator, Ooredoo, this week announced that its subscriber base has exceeded 100m across the Middle East, North Africa and Southeast Asia.

Ooredoo announced the milestone had been reached in the fourth quarter of 2014, in a year that saw the telco grow in its home market, and in Algeria and Oman, and launch operations in new markets like Myanmar.

"Ooredoo has always had a clear vision for growth, supported by our prudent investment and development strategy," said Sheikh Abdulla Bin Mohammed Bin Saud Al Thani, chairman, Ooredoo Group. "Reaching this milestone of 100m customers reminds us how far we have travelled over the past decade, and reinforces the incredible impact that Ooredoo services are having around the world."

At home, Ooredoo grew its customer base to more than 3m and in Algeria reached more than 3.5m 3G customers in its first year of offering the service.
