MWC 2015: Etisalat, Huawei sign MoU in Barcelona
Companies sign memorandum to ‘enrich user experience through joint research’
UAE telecoms provider, Etisalat, and Chinese equipment vendor, Huawei, have used Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to "co-operate on joint research initiatives aimed at enhancing the user experience for Etisalat's customers in UAE", according to a statement from Huawei.
The MoU outlines a pledge from both companies to "expand joint research efforts focusing on full-scale network transformation that helps improve user experience".
The duo will focus particularly on emerging technologies such as 3CC carrier aggregation, 4K video, 1Gbps @home, VoWifi, cloud computing technology, software-defined networking (SDN) and network functions virtualisation (NFV).
"Etisalat remains committed to bringing its customers the latest and most advanced telecom services with an exceptional user experience," said Saeed Al Zarouni, senior vice president, Mobile Network, Etisalat UAE. "Our collaboration with Huawei allows for collective research and sharing of best practice that helps us maintain our leading position in providing an extraordinary end-user experience."
Commenting on the MoU signing, Jason Li, president, Joint Committee of Regions, Huawei, said: "With an emphasis on customer-centric innovation, we look forward to this expanded scope of R&D activities and making it possible for Etisalat customers to enjoy even better service experiences wherever they are."
