Brocade launches switch, software enhancements for VCS Fabric portfolio
VDX 6940 switch said to deliver ‘industry’s highest port density’
Network hardware vendor Brocade has introduced what it calls "significant enhancements" to its VCS Fabric portfolio, including the launch of its VDX 6940 switch.
The enhancements are aimed at organisations migrating from legacy client-server architectures to capacity-on-demand infrastructures, such as those found in data centres.
As well as the VDX 6940 switch, said to deliver "the industry's highest port density", the company has introduced several software offerings to integrate the VDX infrastructure with data centre ecosystems through software-defined networking (SDN), virtualisation, cloud orchestration, and DevOps.
Software enhancements and the Brocade VDX 6940 switches will be available this month, with a starting price of $27,995.
"Brocade VCS Fabric technology provides today's data centres with unmatched automation, efficiency, and agility - absolute requirements for networks in the face of today's social, big data, cloud and mobility trends," said Yarob Sakhnini, regional director, MEMA at Brocade.
"Simple, centralised management with zero-touch provisioning helps create highly scalable, flexible, and resilient environments. VCS fabrics deliver a software-driven infrastructure to enhance IT agility and enable organisations to transition smoothly to elastic networks in highly virtualised and cloud environments. The new VDX 6940 and software enhancements is another step in Brocade's journey to help organisations break the status quo and move from siloed, static-design networks to the New IP."
