BlackBerry, Boeing collaborate on ‘self-destruct’ phone
Handset aimed at security-conscious clients, such as government agencies
Canadian smartphone maker, BlackBerry, this weekend revealed it is working with aviation giant Boeing on an Android handset that will be able to self-destruct if it is tampered with, Reuters reported.
The Boeing Black smartphone, which encrypts calls, is aimed at government agencies for which data and communication security are paramount. It has a dual-SIM setup and can be configured to access biometric sensors and satellites.
"We're pleased to announce that Boeing is collaborating with BlackBerry to provide a secure mobile solution for Android devices utilising our BES 12 [BlackBerry Enterprise Service] platform," said BlackBerry CEO John Chen. "That, by the way, is all they allow me to say."
BES is a mobile device management platform that allows enterprises to police cross-platform devices, including those running Android and iOS.
