Instagram reaches 300m users

Facebook's image-sharing service, Instagram, now claims more than 300m users, surpassing Twitter's 284m, Reuters reported.

Instagram users share over 70m images and videos per day, according to the company. The service, which began operations in October 2010, reached 200m users in March.

Instagram pledged yesterday to eliminate spam accounts and said it would issue "verified" badges for celebrities and companies in an effort to clean up.

Facebook bought Instagram in April 2012.
