GSSG selects Alcatel-Lucent to network schools
The new networks for Al Maha and Al Jazeera Academies will help to deliver connected education.

Qatar-based conglomerate Ghanim Bin Saad Al Saad & Sons Group (GSSG) has deployed new voice and data networks at its Al Jazeera and Al Maha Academies.

The new networks, based on Alcatel-Lucent solutions, were rolled out by Intercol, to give the schools the latest in IP telephony and WLAN for connected classrooms and online learning.

"Today's educators are faced with growing challenges to improve access to resources, enable lifelong learning and deliver services in new ways," said Ahmed Al Mannai, CEO, Al Jazeera and Al Maha Academies. "Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise and Intercol have the means to prepare our schools as they grow towards Smart Learning and the future of education. By implementing these solutions, our students can enjoy a better learning experience, increased collaboration with easier access to resources. Our teachers will also be connected with one another at all times to enable easier decision making and faster response time."

The network infrastructure deployed runs on a virtualized core of 2xOmniSwitch-6900 Compact Cores, and OmniSwitch-6450s. It is complimented by an OmniAccess Wireless LAN 4550 controller that supports 802.11ac radio coverage, next generation BYOD features and advanced network analytics. This solution will offer complete Wi-Fi coverage for the 350 classrooms and enable Voice-over-Wi-Fi mobility to extend the deskphone experience across the two campuses.

Najeh Khalil, regional director, Upper Gulf, Alcatel-lucent Enterprise said: "Customers have learned that they can depend on Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise for innovative solutions that anticipate their technology needs. GSSG have selected Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise because of the feature rich education-specific solutions, which meet its current needs while also positioning them for the future."

N Raghavan, operations manager at Intercol added: "As communications and networking technologies become more significant in our region, it is important to choose the right technology providers. Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise were able to provide an end-to-end education suite that enabled both schools to have a better learning experience for their students."
