Abu Dhabi Systems and Information Centre (ADSIC) welcomed strategic partners and selected graduates from the e-Citizen programme to a media roundtable at GITEX.

The e-Citizen programme was designed to raise technology awareness and competency, foster digital culture and promote e-participation among various segments of society.

“Our main goal with the e-Citizen Program is to ensure the Emirate of Abu Dhabi has a well-informed population, with enough IT tools and solutions to function properly and, ultimately, decrease the digital divide in society,” says Amal Al Tamimi, e-Citizen Programme Manager. The programme, which won a first place prize in the category of ‘Information Technology Applications and e-Learning’ during the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) conference in Geneva, Switzerland earlier this year, was launched by ADSIC in 2012, in partnership with the Family Development Foundation, Abu Dhabi Education Council and  Zayed Higher Organisation for Humanitarian Care and Special Needs. The free training has so far helped 2592 people with limited knowledge of technology to learn how to use computers and the internet.

“The e-Citizen Program is really suitable for people with little or no knowledge on IT. It was extremely useful to me and definitely made my life easier and more convenient,” says Mohammed Al Loqa, a student.
