Saudi Telecommunication Company (STC) and Huawei have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at GITEX TECHNOLOGY WEEK, to increase their regional collaboration.

The deal is part of STC’s aims to enhance its networks and operations management capabilities while developing new business models for future growth.

Huawei will assist the operator on a number of development fronts aimed at increasing STC’s revenues, while at the same time reducing operational costs by better mobilizing its existing network assets.

The cooperation will include the advancement of new Customer Asset Monetization schemes, consultancy and solutions to power regional Smart City initiatives, the joint development of eLTE solutions, as well as the pioneering of new business models cooperating with over-the-top (OTT) service providers.

“As leaders in a world of constant change, STC strives to exceed customer expectations by working with top regional and global entities within the telecommunications sector,” says Abdulaziz Alsugair, STC Chairman and Managing Director.

“Over the years, Huawei has proven to be a valued partner of STC. It is with great ambitions that we are teaming up with Huawei once again to capture emerging opportunities within the region’s thriving telecommunications landscape.”

In recent years Saudi Arabia has undertaken a rapid development of its ICT industry including the construction of high-speed mobile broadband networks, numerous e-Government service projects, as well as a number of Smart City initiatives being planned across the Kingdom.

Previously STC has worked with Huawei on a number of key initiatives including the operator’s latest upgrade of its LTE-Advanced mobile broadband network.  Last year STC also selected Huawei for a four-year managed services contract.
