ACN SALARY SURVEY: Gulf tech staff earn average of $81,000 pa
This year's responses show a broader spread to earnings.

Gulf IT professionals earn an average of $81,000 per annum (AED25,000 per month) according to a recent survey by Arabian Computer News.

The annual poll showed a broader distribution of salaries than last year, with 11% of respondents reporting earnings of $150,000 or more in a year, down from 13% last year. A further 31% make $20,000 to $50,000, while 7% earn over $200,000.

The ACN IT Salary Survey 2014 was an anonymous online survey run through ITP.net between July and early September. It quizzed participants on a range of employment issues, including satisfaction, career intentions, staffing levels and training.

The survey was first run last year. This year's poll received 461 responses in total, with 386 (84%) describing themselves as IT professionals working in the Middle East. A full 83% had been in IT for more than five years.

The majority said they were in full time employment, with 4% in part-time roles. Respondents were found to be mainly working for large organisations; 57% were in organisations of 1,000 or more and 29% in organisations of 100 to 1000 employees. Respondents were found to be spread across all verticals. Half had been with their current employer for up to five years and half for over 5 years.

Most were between the ages of 25 and 44. Some 55% said they were educated to degree level, and 40% had completed a Masters or MBA. Gender was split 90% male, 10% female, showing a significant upturn in female respondents, from only 2.9% last year.

When it came to location spread, 61% were working in the UAE and 22% in Saudi Arabia. Overall 92% of those polled were based in the GCC.

In the coming weeks, ITP.net will report on the key findings from the survey, publishing a summary of the full results of the poll on 30 September. An in-depth report on the findings will be published in the October edition of Arabian Computer News.
