TRA starts initiative on telecoms for special needs subscribers
Al Ghanim: Paying attention to this important segment in our society as considered one of the standards of civilization.

UAE ICT watchdog, the Telecommunication Regulatory Authority (TRA) today announced it has begun consulting with "partners and the public" regarding provision of telecoms services to those with special needs.

"Paying attention to this important segment in our society as considered one of the standards of civilization and part of the cultural and social values that our wise leadership has instilled within us," said HE Mohamed Nasser Al Ghanim, director general of the TRA.

"We are confident that all the service providers and licensed companies in UAE will develop digital content for this sector."

The TRA has drafted an Instructions Manual that includes several articles centred on the rights of those with special needs. The regulator said it was in the midst of "consultations with relevant partners in the telecommunication sector and the Ministry of Social Affairs" to approve the final draft of the manual.
